Automotive plant replaces vision systems with multiple VFix

Dec 19, 2018

An automotive OEM plant is making the switch from inferred 3D vision systems to Liberty Reach’s true volumetric vision systems, VFix.  The customer is excited to be rid of extra hardware, including multiple cameras and lights, and robot-mounted cables that break every few weeks.

Due to repeated cable breaks, the plant requested that no robot mounted sensors be used in the new systems.  While V-Guide is normally used for door seam sealing, Liberty Reach tested an validated the use of VFix in this application.

A total of 6 VFix systems will be installed:

  • one 4-sensor overhead system for guiding 2 robots on the hood
  • four 1-sensor systems for the four doors
  • one 4-sensor system – 2 overhead and 2 side facing – for tail gates

The hood system is the first to be commissioned, and has reduced the cycle time by over 10 seconds.

Whether you’re brand new to guidance or ready to prove out a project, Liberty Reach is here to help.
