What is different about Liberty Reach from other companies you have worked for in the past?

“Liberty Reach feels so inclusive, and I never feel looked down upon because I am a young woman working in a STEM field. Everyone at LR brings their own talents to the team, and we work together to develop superior products to our customers. The LR team recognizes that I have strong mathematical and problem-solving skills, and even though I still have a lot to learn, I am a valued asset.”

What is it about machine vision that fascinates you?

“Machine vision is so interesting to me because of the amount of work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes. Our team works for months to figure out and fine-tune the math, programming, and design needed to create software that meets our customers’ needs. It’s fascinating to me how all of us put our skills together to create such amazing products.

Machine vision 100% improves automation. It allows for more part variance between cycles while still achieving accurate robot guidance. It also eliminates the need for humans to do messy and dangerous tasks. The box packing project I am working on will make it so robots can do the heavy lifting and packing of boxes, reducing the physical strain on human workers. Instead, the humans can learn to operate our system and the robots, which helps these people gain more specialized skills.”

As a Robotic Specialist at Liberty Reach, what do you find rewarding about the work that you do?

“I like to think that my job is to put together a puzzle without knowing what the final picture will exactly look like. With puzzles, you know there are going to be four corners and four sides and some kind of picture in it. With our box packing product, we know that we need to move boxes from a pick zone and then place them on pallets in a way that will create safely structured, fully filled pallets. But our team must figure out the best algorithm to pack boxes, the best position for the robot to be in for pick and place positions, and how the software should handle faults with box measuring and packing. It’s these daily challenges that I love to work on, because I’m slowly placing pieces of the puzzle together and helping to create the final picture.”

Tell us about one of your favorite vacations you have been on.

“I’ve been on a lot of family vacations, but my favorite one was probably going to New Orleans, LA. I got to choose the destination for my senior year, and I chose New Orleans because of the food, history, and spirit of the city. My dad had been there several years before, and he brought back the magic that is beignets (French doughnuts). We went to Café du Monde probably 3-4 times in the five days we were in the city, and always got an order of beignets with café au lait (coffee with milk). It was a really great time with my parents, and the trip was so special to me because we were able to take it right before the world shut down due to COVID-19.”
