Read this brief interview with Software Engineer I, Jacob, to discover more about his background and his contributions to enhancing our 3D robot guidance systems.
What is it about machine vision that you find fascinating?
“I didn’t realize until working with machine vision, how much I enjoy it. You really take for granted just how much work your eyes do for you, and what seems clear to human eyes is like an optical illusion to vision software. There’s only so much you can do without seeing your workspace, so I think that machine vision is a key component of automation.”
How is Liberty Reach different from other companies you have worked for in the past?
“It has to be the work culture. The overall attitude I’ve experienced with management has always been along the lines of “What do you need to succeed? How can I help?” It’s really reassuring to know that if I ever need anything, it’s easy to reach out and get the resources I need.”
What do you find rewarding about the work that you do as a Software Engineer I?
“Seeing the robots in action always fills me with a sense of accomplishment. I usually work with static images, so when you have a live camera feed and seeing the robot working consistently well, I’m reminded of all the ways it could have gone wrong without the fixes that I helped implement.”
Describe one of your favorite trips you have been on.
“Some friends and I went on a trip to Toronto to watch a symphony orchestra play some beautiful arrangements from a video game that we all play (The Legend of Zelda). The concert itself was the best part of the trip, but we also got brunch while we were there, and I never undersell the importance of good food on any trip.”
Are you currently reading any good books that you would recommend?
“Some friends and I recently started up a book club, and we decided to start with Agatha Christie’s first book “The Mysterious Affair at Styles”. I love mysteries and it’s interesting seeing where such a prolific author got her start. I’m about halfway through the book and already have so many questions! The detective, Hercule Poirot, just loves leaving the audience in suspense. ”
